Our experienced team of specialists work together to provide the absolute best treatment options.

Mercy has been treating cancer patients in Eastern Iowa since 1956, when Hall Radiation Center was established with the first community hospital-based cobalt unit west of the Mississippi River. Since then, our team has grown and technology has changed, but our commitment to fighting cancer remains the same.

Medical Oncology/Hematology

Medical Oncology is the care and treatment of cancers provided by a team that consists of Medical Oncologists and Oncology Nurses. This team plays an important role in the care of cancer patients by providing education to the patients and their families about various forms of cancer and the temporary side effects of cancer treatment.

Hematology is the study of blood and blood-forming tissues and the study of the nature, function, and diseases of the blood and of blood-forming organs. Hematologists often deal with diseases such as anemia, leukemia, clotting disorders like Hodgkin's Disease, multiple myeloma, lymphoma, etc.

Radiation Oncology

Radiation oncologists specialize in the treatment of cancer patients through radiation. Cancer patients who receive radiation therapy may also receive it in combination with surgery, chemotherapy or to ease the pain associated with incurable cancers. Radiation oncologists work closely with other physicians as part of the multidisciplinary cancer team.

Oncologic Surgery

Mercy’s vision is to provide world-class cancer care with the best and brightest minds, which includes specialists dedicated specifically to fighting cancer. Dr. Vincent Reid is the only fellowship-trained oncologic surgeon in Cedar Rapids.
