Join Mercy & Alliant Energy at Power of Pink to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Mercy Medical Center and Alliant Energy invite the community to the Power of Pink event on Thurs., Oct. 1, to help kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This free, family-friendly event includes an illumination ceremony and a laser light show to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
Beginning with the Power of Pink event and continuing throughout October, Mercy’s Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, hospital entrances and key campus locations will be illuminated in pink – a colorful, visible reminder of the continued fight against breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
Thanks to Alliant Energy, community members can light the night pink, too. Guests may pick up a free pink energy-saving light bulb while supplies last. Then, switch out a porch light to remind the women on your street to get screened for breast cancer. This simple act could save a life. That’s the Power of Pink!
This year’s event will also include a silent auction benefitting the Especially for You Fund, which helps provide breast and gynecological cancer screenings and services for local women in need.
Power of Pink highlights:
- 4 to 7 p.m.: Especially for You® (EFY) Race Against Breast Cancer packet pick-up
- Music by Alisabeth Von Presley
- Free pink energy-saving light bulbs from Alliant Energy and pink frosting from General Mills will be available while supplies last.
- Refreshments
- Silent auction
- 7:15 p.m.: The program begins, followed by an illumination ceremony and laser light show
Guests are encouraged to wear pink or their EFY race shirts from past events to show support and solidarity.
