Join Mercy & Alliant Energy to light the night pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Mercy Medical Center and Alliant Energy invite the community to help “light the night pink” on Thurs., Oct. 2, in observance of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, during the annual Power of Pink celebration.
This free, family-friendly event is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
As part of the event and throughout October, Mercy’s Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, hospital entrances and key campus locations will be illuminated in pink – a colorful, visible reminder of the continued fight against breast cancer.
Power of Pink Highlights:
- Festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. outside Hall-Perrine Cancer Center with live music, refreshments and giveaways.
- A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. marks the 35th anniversary of the Especially for You® (EFY) Race Against Breast Cancer. Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance participates.
- Alliant Energy pink energy-saving LED lightbulb giveaway:
- Stop by and pick up a free bulb, then “light your porch pink” throughout October.
- 4 to 7 p.m. – EFY race participants can pick up their race packets; EFY merchandise will be available for purchase.
- 7:15 p.m. – A brief program precedes the official lighting ceremony of the Cancer Center and hospital in pink, followed by fireworks from the rooftop of Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.
Guests are encouraged to wear pink or their EFY race shirts from past events to show support and solidarity.
